Cisco Systems VPN 3000 Client -- Mac OS X

Introduction

The Cisco Systems VPN Client is a networking software package that allows users not on the MCCCD Network to access restricted electronic resources.

What You Will Need

  • An active Internet connection.

    The VPN client works over a previously established internet connection. For users of electronic resources, this will generally be a DSL, cable, or dialup connection through a non-MCCCD ISP.

  • An active MCCCD Unix account, used for authentication.

Obtaining the Cisco Systems VPN Client

The VPN Client can by downloaded from the Software Download page, at http://www.guardian.maricopa.edu/VPN_files/download/macintosh/vpnclient-darwin-3.7.2.Rel-GUI-k9.zip.

Installing the Cisco Systems VPN Client

    Note: If you are not the administrator of the machine, you will have to gain administrator access before you can continue.

  • To begin the installation process, double click on the icon marked CiscoVPN.

    This will launch the VPN 3000 Installer.

  • Click on the icon of the lock. You will be asked for the machine administrator username and password. Input them and click OK.

    Once your administrator username and password authenticate, the installer will launch. For the series of questions asked, click the Next button. The installer will run.
  • After the installer has finished, Restart your computer.

Configuring the Cisco Systems VPN Client

    To launch the Cisco VPN 3000 client, locate the VPN icon in your Dock and click on it. The VPN 3000 Client will launch.
  • In the VPN 3000 Client window, click the button labled New. The VPN Client | Create New VPN Connectoin Entry window will appear.
  • In the Connection Entry field input Maricopa
  • In the Host field input secdovpn.maricopa.edu.
  • Click on the Authentication tab.
  • Verify that the Group Authentication radio button is checked.
  • If you are connecting to access Electronic Resources and are connected to an ISP other than MCCCD input MCCCD in the Name field.
  • In the Password field input "password provided".
  • In the Confirm Password field input "password provided" .
  • Click on the Transport tab. The Transport Configuration Panel will appear.
  • Check the Enable Transport Tunneling check box.
  • Check the IPSec over UDP ( NAT / PAT ) radio button.
  • Click on the Save button and you'll be returned to VPN 3000 Client window.

Connecting with the Cisco Systems VPN Client

After you have configured the VPN client, you can attempt to connect to the MCCCD Network.

  • In the VPN 3000 Client window, highlight pn.maricopa.edu and press Connect. The VPN Client | User Authentication window will appear.
  • Input your MCCCD username and password and click OK.

    Note: If you enter your username and/or password incorrectly, you will be prompted to enter them again. After three unsuccessful attempts to authenticate, the VPN client will return an authentication error.

If you have entered your MCCCD username and password correctly you will be returned to the VPN 3000 Client window and a blue dot will appear next to your vpn.maricopa.edu configuration. You can now access MCCCD Restricted resources.
